INSPECTING OIL PUMP 1Inspect the pump for damage2It is inadvisable to remove the screw securing the pump halvesIf the oil
cam chain2With the chain extended, use calipers to measure the length along 20 pinsFig3-856 1Place the left-side crankcase
cover onto the left-side crankcase half to prevent runout of the secondary transmission output shaft2Install the secondary
driven output shaft assembly onto the crankcase3Mount the indicator tip of the dial indicator on the secondary driven bevel
gear4While rocking the driven bevel gear back and forth, note the maximum backlash reading on the gauge5Acceptable backlash
range is 0.05-0.33 mm (0.002-0.013 inCorrecting Backlash ATV-1060 3Standard length is 127.00127.36 mm (4.99-5.00 in4Maximum
length must be 128.9 mm (5.07 in NOTE: If backlash measurement is within the acceptable range, no correction is necessary
1If backlash measurement is less than specified, remove an existing shim, measure it, and install new thinner shim2If backlash
