Place the valve adjuster onto the jam nut securing the tappet adjuster screw; then rotate the valve adjuster dial clockwise
both spark plugs must be removed 4Attach the Compression Gauge (pln 0444-096) 1 NOTE: The engine must be warm and the battery
must be fully charged for this test Rotating the valve adjuster dial counterclockwise will open the valveltappet clearance
by 0.07 mm (0.003 in per mark 5While holding the throttle lever in the full-open position, crank the engine over with the
electric starter until the gauge shows peak reading (five to 10 compression strokes)1 NOTE: For the 400, the compression
should be within range of 95-115 psi in the full-open throttle positionFor the 5001650 HI, the compression should be within
range of 70-85 psi in the full-open throttle positionFor the 650 V-Twin, the compression should be within range of 45-80
psi in the full-open throttle position 8While holding the adjuster dial at the proper clearance setting, tighten the jam
nut securely with the valve adjuster handle; then tighten the jam nuts to specifications9Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise
