Servicing Top-Side Components NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
cover cannot be trued, the cylinder head assembly must be replaced 1Wash the valve cover in parts-cleaning solvent2Place
the valve cover on the Surface Plate (pn 0644-016) covered with #400 grit wet-or-dry sandpaperUsing light pressure, move
the valve cover in figure eight motionInspect the sealing surface for any indication of high spotsA high spot can be noted
by bright metallic finishCorrect any high spots before assembly by continuing to move the valve cover in figure eight motion
until uniform bright metallic finish is attained 2Remove the valve seal and the lower remaining spring seatDiscard the valve
seal ! CAUTION Do not remove an excessive amount of the sealing surface or damage to the camshaft will resultAlways check
camshaft clearance when resurfacing the valve cover NOTE: The valve seals must be replaced 3Remove the valve springs; then
