CLEANING AND INSPECTING 1NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
procedure ASet the selector to the OHMS position BTouch the black lead to the armature shaft C.Using the red tester lead,
probe the commuta- 5Inspect the rear cover bushing for wear6Inspect the front cover bearing for wear7Inspect the brass commutator
end of the armature for any discolored spots or damageIf the commutator is lightly discolored or damaged, the armature must
be replacedThis is molded commutator and turning it down in lathe should not be attempted tor end of the armatureThe meter
indicator should not changeIf the indicator shows resistance, the armature is shorted and must be replaced 11Inspect the
armature for shorting using 'growler" and the following procedure APlace the armature in the "growler A CAUTION Do not use
emery cloth to clean the commutator as emery particles will become imbedded in the brass commutator resulting in short circuitUse
