ENGINE Counterbalance Shaft RemovalInspection 1Note timing marks on balance shaft drive gears and crankshaft drive gearShafts
shaft bearings NOTE: Due to extremely close tolerances, counterbalance shaft bearings must be inspected visually, and by
feelLook for signs of discoloration, scoring, galling, or contamination from moisture or dirtTurn bearings on shaftBearings
should turn smoothly and quietlyThe outer race should be firm with minimal side to side movement and no detectable up and
down movementReplace bearings if any of the above are present5Inspect gear teeth for damageNormal split gear alignment is
approximately 12 tooth in the relaxed position as shownNOTE: Do not attempt to press off the thrust washer with the split
gearThe washer is positioned behind the alignment pin and can only be replaced if the pin is removed (see the following illustration)
